Local Green Party: Lewisham Green Party
Nominators: Sofie Van Der Ham (Brighton and Hove Green Party) and Sofiya Ahmed (Camden Party Party)
With racism and Islamophobia on a rise and another 5 years of tories we need a strong BAME movement within the Green Party. We need a committee that take discrimination against People of Colour seriously and works towards building strategies in order to fight against it. We need a campaign that puts Intersectionality at heart of everything it does rather just promoting lip service. It's about the time we change how the Green Party is perceived by the masses and prove that it's not just a party for the middle class white people but a party for the working class of all backgrounds!
If elected onto the committee my focus would be on:
Fair Representation: 96 years ago, women received the right to vote in the UK. However now more than ever women are underrepresented and unaccounted for by our decision makers. Only 1 in 5 MPs and peers are women. Figures are just as deplorable for BAME and LGBT communities. I will campaign for young greens to become a more open and representative vehicle of democracy for our members.
Free Education: Education is a right and not a privilege. Under this conservative government it is becoming less of a right and more of a service specially for people of colour coming from underprivileged backgrounds. Rising costs of living, cuts to provision and rising tuition fees has left young
people feeling more dejected and alienated fro education than ever before. I will fight for a free and fair education system. A system that puts public knowledge and advancement before profit.
NHS: Today's national health service faces as many ills as the people it was set up for in 1948. It is at risk of destruction by policies such as TTIP and Conservative dogma of mass privatisation.
I will be a voice for the NHS on Greens of Colour committee From A&E closures to TTIP. I will be on the front line campaigning for a service that cares for us from cradle to grave.
Tackle issues apart from the obvious Green policies and focus on disabled people as well as mental health issues that other mainstream parties forget to address.
