Heritage: A migrant from Mauritius and of Indian descent.
Local Green Party: Oxford Green Party
Nominators: Fiona Costello, London and Jennifer Markew, Milton Keynes
Having formed the Greens of Colour, our BME caucus in the party, I am standing to carry through the work I started.
I would like to work through the implementation of the constitution to ensure that caucus is democratic in terms of consultation and in terms of consultation with people of colour in the party.
Furthermore, I would like to expand the caucus further into the party through delivery of training workshops at a local, national and regional level in the party.
People of Colour in the party are not homogenous in their views on racial diversity and white hegemony. I believe that discussions need to take place in the party to allow for these views to be explored. If elected, I would like to work on that. It may be that this starts with conference call discussion to develop further.
The party needs a diverse voice in terms of race. I will continue to.ensure that this is emphasised within the work GOC does. This can range from including panels and workshops at conferences to identifying a person in local parties to work on racial diversity.
